I Wish My Hairstylist Told Me This by Stylist Jamie Nguyen

I Wish My Hairstylist Told Me This

Do you ever feel unprepared when you go to get your hair done, whether it would be for a formal event or new highlights? Do you wish you knew what you are getting into so there are no surprises? Here are a few tips and tricks below to help prepare you for your next hair appointment and what to expect.

Special Event/Wedding

1.     Make sure that your inspiration photos are realistic. Try to find hairstyles that match the density of your hair and the length!

2.     There is a common trend that is said everywhere that you must come in with dirty hair. That is false and can lead to problems with styling your hair. When the hair is too dirty, it is heavier because of the oils, and the stylist must use more products than normal to get your hair to cooperate. Come into your appointment with semi-clean, dry hair and your stylist will thank you for it. Trust me!

3.      Sometimes your curls won’t last all day if you want those very loose beach waves. We recommend getting your curls a little tighter so they will fall over the course of the day to the style that you love.

Salon

1.     Stop the purple shampoo 2 weeks before your appointment date if you are getting highlights or a balayage. Hairstylists need to know the true tone of your hair.

2.     The long-term effects of lighting your hair can be unknown given your hair history. The service will leave your hair more damaged and knottier than before. Also, if you decide you want to go back to the dark hair, the darker color will fade more quickly so you would have to, in turn, color it dark more often to keep it dark.

3.      Getting your hair colored whether you want highlights, or a full color correction may take a little longer than you think. It could be an all-day event! Take the day off and be prepared to sit in the chair for quite a few hours and enjoy the service.
