Bangs- Who should wear them? by Melissa Bustamante

 Bangs Speak Louder than Words.

Yes, bangs are in style but, confidence is key to rock bangs in 2022.  You’ve been thinking, planning, looking at pictures, and now you are seriously considering bangs a.k.a. fringe and now you think you’ve made a decision and are ready to move forward!  Remember this is a personal decision so factor in all of the details before making the final move and ask yourself the following questions.

Q1 - Do bangs flatter every face shape?

Square face shapes - should avoid harder, blunt-looking fringe, but instead try a softer wispy fringe that’s longer around the temples or a side-swept look.

Round or heart face shape – blunt bangs for sure.

Oval face shapes-   any style of fringe.

Another rule to consider: wherever the length of your bangs ends will draw attention to that feature or part of the face. Flattering bangs should frame and focus on your positive features—not overwhelm or cover up your face. And hair texture plays a role in determining what style of bangs will best suit you.

Q2 - How often do you need to trim your bangs?

Trimming really depends on the length and style of your fringe. The shorter and blunter the fringe, the more frequent the upkeep about four weeks. Styles and lengths such as Curtain bangs or side-swept fringe can last a long time, more like six to eight weeks. Be sure to ask you stylist how this would  work out with your appointment scheduling.

Q3 – How much time can I commit to styling my hair at home?

Bangs aren’t wash and go they'll require a few minutes of your time and this all depends on styling tips, hair routine and products that you use. What works for one person may not for another. One pro tip I found was that you may find that you have to blow-dry your hair the first thing out of the shower otherwise your natural hair pattern sets in which could make it more challenging to style. The same when you wake up and have to handle that bed head. A quick spritzing with dry shampoo or wetting your bangs down and blow-drying.

A few products that will make a difference is a dry shampoo. We recommend Redkens Invisible Dry Shampoo, this is a product that will help absorb oil and keep your fringe fresh.  Another is, Pureology, Soft Finish Hairspray, a lightweight hairspray that allows you to restyle your hair without leaving it sticky.

And lastly, great bangs need great tools.  A flat paddle brush (check out our collection of Wet Brushes) and a flat iron to style bangs, we have both available in the salon and currently have a hot tools promotion going on  through April! If your bangs need to be sleeker, make sure to use a heat protectant when using a flat iron to coat your strands, we recommend Redken Iron Shape 11!

Whatever you decide as always, I am a firm believer in going straight to the source, your stylist; she knows your hair and will be able to guide you and answer all of your questions. And remember we don’t want to see your stylist get “Bangry- “A type of anger experienced by stylists when a client cuts their own bangs”.  So be sure to come in with all the things, pictures and eye glasses, if you wear them,  so that we can play around and get an idea if this is the look for you!

As Always- Love is in the Hair –

Melissa
