Why Spray Tanning? by Brandi Houin Michel

Spray tanning, the perfect alternative to UV rays that will give you “A just off the beach look”
For years, the simple answer for getting color or a “tan”, was to visit the local tanning spa and enjoy some UV rays courtesy of the salon’s tanning beds or go lay out for hours on the beach. With more people wanting to avoid the skin cancer percentage increase that can happen with long time exposure to UV rays, spray tans are one of the fastest growing services in the beauty industry. Many people feel extra confident with a tan body and I know for certain I’m one of them!
The most popular times guests book a spray tan session is before a wedding, proms, homecoming dances, a vacation, a body building competition, or any other special occasion that could be coming up.
First things first, the key to a natural Just off the Beach Tan is starting with a palette that is clean, healthy, and fresh.
Before getting a spray tan it is mandatory to shave, wax, and/or exfoliate 24-48 hours before your spray tan session. If you don’t it could result in uneven color results and your spray tan could potentially not last the 5-7 days it normally would.  When exfoliating the day before please do not use an oil-based scrub it can leave a residue on the skin that can affect the color adhesion.
The day of your appointment it is best to arrive with no make-up, moisturizer, or deodorant on your skin. Wear loose fitting and/or dark clothes to your session. Your spray tan artist will consult with you and pick the perfect tanning solution for your skin type and desired results.
After your session is complete the immediate color on your skin is the cosmetic bronzers. Your full tan color with not develop for 12-24 hours. Immediately following the spray tan application, avoid activities that may cause you to sweat excessively and possibly cause streaking of the cosmetic bronzers. Use the air conditioning in your car on a hot day.  Remember, your skin has just been tinted with a water-soluble solution. The day after a session and after the first shower only pat the skin to dry off, do not rub. Be sure to use a recommended moisturizer to protect the tan 2x every day because dry skin doesn’t hold a tan as well as moisturized skin.
Spray tans do not protect the skin from UV rays, so be sure to still apply sunscreen.
 WEDDING SPRAY TAN TIPS:
1.)    Always get a trial spray tan (especially if you haven’t had one before) or two if you can before your wedding day.
2.)    Take some photos and get someone to video you while wearing your trial tan to check that you like the level of color on your skin.
3.)    Get your final spray tan 2 days prior to your wedding day. This will minimize any of the bronzer coming off on your wedding dress and a tan always looks better on day 2 or 3.
